A Word From the Authors
You live a busy life, so we wrote Connecting to be read in bite-sized amounts that you can try to apply to everyday life. We want this to be a book that you can refer back to as your child grows older or struggles with new things. Keep it on your bookshelf so that you can check back in as your child reaches milestones, like getting their first phone or first social media account. Our goal is to help you navigate and learn from these new milestones, which is what we as parents do across so many aspects of our child’s lives. Thank you for joining us and being part of the good enough parents community around connecting.
Jenny Radesky, MD, FAAP
About the Book
With recent publications about adolescent technology use gaining popularity, concern about children and teens’ use of social and digital media has gone from merely high to nearly frantic. Drs. Moreno and Radesky, pediatricians and leading experts on technology and digital media, argue that parents need help, not hype.
In Connecting, they provide practical guidance, rooted in strong parent-child relationships, minus fear and shame. Moreno and Radesky discuss how to promote healthy tech use at home and how to normalize parents’ own struggles with media use. As pediatricians, the authors address the most common health concerns related to technology and digital media, including sleep, mental health, and physical activity. Connecting will help calm and empower parents to navigate technology in the way that best works for their own families with less guilt and anxiety.
